Other than your state professional license for Contractor, there is no special Business License for Contractor company.
Even though it would seem that you need a Contractor Business License, in most cases, you do not need a special license to be a Contractor Business.

What is different about a Carpenter Contractor company?

What differentiates your business is that you have to have a state license. That means, that you will need to provide the number when you apply for a Business License. After that, you will need a Seller's Permit because Contractor parts and units are taxable when repaired or installed.

You will need to charge for your parts separately from the services and add sales tax to the parts and or ac units.
Because of that, you are required to get a Seller's Permit to buy the parts wholesale and sell them retail.

What do I need to do first?

All you need to do is set up your business, with the legal licensing requirements and tax considerations involved.

So, you first need to select a business tax structure for your Contractor company. You have a choice among sole proprietor (you file a DBA for this), partnership (you file a DBA for this), corporation (you file a incorporation certificate and also need bylaws, which is included with the incorporation \ filing service, for this) or LLC (you file an LLC certificate and also need an LLC operating agreement , which is included with the LLC filing service, for this).

After you select your Contractor’s' company business entity structure, you will need to obtain a license and tax registration for your company and specifically for this type of business. So for example, you buy 100 feet of 2 x 4s and 10 bugs of concrete from Home depot.
The price will be about $100 plus taxes and you will have to pay about $108. However, after becoming a Carpenter contractor and you sign up as such, you will be able to buy wholesale and save about $20 which is about 20% of your purchase.
Finally, if you will use a trade name to go by… for example, “Rob’ em Cheat’ em Carpenter Installation Services,” you will need to register a fictitious business name certificate.

Starting a Carpenter Business

I am a client with accounts. Pershing LLC has a Payer's Federal ID Number of 13-2741729. My turbo tax e-file is also asking for a Payer TIN and rejects the number above; is there a different number to use? I cannot submit as it keeps showing up as an error if I use the same number.
